COMMENTARY

Along the following months a report on the events starting on June 14th 1981 is going to be given. It is a simple tribute to the commemoration of the twenty-seventh anniversary of the first apparition of The Virgin Mary to Luz Amparo at Prado Nuevo.

June 14th 1981was the Trinity Sunday. At "Prado Nuevo" on an ash tree next to a spring, The Virgin appeared as "Our Lady of Sorrows":

1.    "I am Our Lady of Sorrows. I want a chapel to be built in this place in my honor. I want people to come here from all over the world to meditate on the Passion my Son endured, because it is completely forgotten"

2.    On January 1st 1982, She added, "I want a chapel to be built in my honor to make retreats and spiritual practices". A few days later, She said again," I have asked for a chapel in my honor so many times (…)! I also want it for spiritual practices" ( January 8th 1982)

3.    To finish with, on July 14th 1984: " I want the Blessed Sacrament to be exposed for all those who want to come to this place to pray; but I don't want Jesus Christ to be alone, my child"

Together with this major aim, the messages bring up-to-date moral and faith truths, currently denied, forgotten or undervalued: God Creator, opposed to man's haughtiness (genetic manipulation, etc), eternal truths such as the existence of Heaven and Hell (the last being denied) the preaching of the Gospel as it is ( without adding or taking away any part), Our Lady as God's Mother ( nowadays, people tend to reduce Jesus Christ as a simple man). They also denounce the prevalent immorality, abortions, etc. This attempt to bring up-to-date these denied, forgotten or undervalued truths is a typical characteristic of private revelations.

The celestial Lady kept on appearing to Luz Amparo, sometimes one day of the week, sometimes another, although it was mainly on First Saturdays of month. Our Lord also appeared till May 4th 2002 when the apparitions finished.

These extraordinary events were spread in such a way that people from other countries heard about them. Lots of people feel something special they cannot express with words at Prado Nuevo, where the pilgrims pray.

We can report briefly some of the things that happened the following years:

-         May 26th 1983: Luz Amparo was beaten at Prado Nuevo when she was praying alone in front of the ash tree, whose niche had been profaned days before. Three persons, covered with a cowl, insulted her, beat her, undressed her and dragged her along the ground. They threatened her that they would rape her, even kill her, if she did not deny everything and confessed it was all a lie…that day she felt the solitude of God. Later, she has said more than once that, when she awoke after the beating, she felt a great joy when she learnt she had not denied God, in spite of the violence of those people.

-         April 12th 1985: The Cardinal archbishop of Madrid, Don Ángel Suquía ( †), released an official document of the Archdiocese of Madrid where he states, " There is no evidence of the supernatural character of the supposed " Apparitions and Revelations" taking place at Prado Nuevo"

When saying " there is no evidence", he neither confirmed nor denied the supernatural character of these religious phenomena because he did not have enough proofs to give a conclusive judgment, as he said several times; the Church did what "it always does in these cases".

This was explained at that time because of the confusion caused by the wrong interpretations of the archiepiscopal document ensuring that the Church had forbidden people to go and pray at Prado Nuevo. Indeed, when it was suggested to the Cardinal Archbishop that "there was no evidence the supposed apparitions and revelations did not have a supernatural character" he immediately said, "if there was an evidence of that, I would have already forbidden everything".

Therefore, The Archbishop of Madrid- Alcalá, Don Ángel Suquía did not deny that the supposed apparitions and revelations were supernatural, he did not forbid people to organize religious acts, say the rosary, via crucis, etc or go to Prado Nuevo or somewhere else if the ecclesiastical  and civil laws were respected.

However, Don Ángel Suquía said later, "Everything will come, be patient". Indeed, the progression of the events was very positive according to the evangelical criteria: "You will recognize them by the fruits" ( Mt 7, 16), " A good tree cannot produce bad fruit and a rotten tree cannot bear good fruit" ( Mt 7, 18)
