COMMENTARY UPON MESSAGES

April 2nd 1983

"…all those who have not fulfilled the Slabs of the Law must do it now, they must go to the sacrament of Confession; lots of people here haven't done it yet, my child. They must go to the Eucharist; my Son is sad and lonely." (Our Lady)

By the "slabs of Law", The Virgin means the ten Commandments of God's Law, as the Book of Exodus says, "Yahweh said to M0ses, " Come up to me on the mountain and stay there. I will give you the slabs of stone, the Teaching and commandment which I have written for their instruction" (Ex 24, 12).

To get to the Glory we have to fulfil the Ten Commandments, all of them. Saint John Bosco was famous for the gift of prophecy, which was given by God to this saint as a help of his priestly duties; some people confusing the true sense of such gift asked him selfishly the winning numbers in the lottery. He answered "ten, five and fourteen. Your luck will be certain". Once their question was satisfied and they were saying goodbye, the saint added something they did not expect, " I am going to explain you my divination: number ten is the Commandments of God, five the Church's and fourteen the merciful deeds. These numbers will make you lucky in this life and in the other" The fulfilment of the commandments causes so much joy in hearts! This is such a guarantee to eternal life! Our Lord said on February 6th 1993, "you, my children, when you come before God not having fulfilled the commandments!" Who will be saved?" they asked me and I replied, "those who fulfil the commandments". Those who do not fulfil the commandments will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven"

We often hear, especially those who do not practice, the expression, "I don't steal and I don't kill" meaning they are honest people and, therefore, they don't need to confess their sins. However, there is a triple mistake in this statement:

1.      The commandments of God's Law are ten, not three or five; fulfilling nine and avoiding one wouldn’t be enough. The Ten Commandments are like a vaulted bridge; if one of the vaults is pulled down, we cannot get to the other side, which is- for us- the eternal life with God.

2.      the seventh and fifth commandments- which are those they refer to- imply more than what they literally say; in other words, we can steal not only money or material things but also the honour of a person; we can also cheat our company wasting time and the things we use, working unwillingly, etc. With respect to the fifth commandment, there are other ways of killing such as hatred, revenge, ill wills, etc

3.      Even though they hadn’t committed mortal sins- which is not very probable- the sacrament of Penance or Confession is very important (" they must go to the sacrament of Confession" Our Lady says in the message); the also called sacrament of Reconciliation produces great fruits in the soul, as Pope Pius XII wrote in his Apostolic Letter " Mystici Corporis Christi" where he talks about the sacrament of Penance and recommends, " We will that the pious practice of frequent confession, which was introduced into the Church by the inspiration of the Holy spirit, should be earnestly advocated. By it genuine self-knowledge is increased, Christian humility grows, bad habits are corrected, spiritual neglect and tepidity are resisted, the conscience is purified, the will strengthened, a salutary self-control is attained, and grace is increased in virtue of the Sacrament itself. ( n.88).

"Look, my child, men's sins have done this to my Son (Luz Amparo cries bitterly for a few seconds). God the Father, my child, is about to make the firmament tear and thousands of angels’ armies will appear on clouds; they will redden the earth with blood and fire. Yes, my child, I will be there among them to take the chosen; furthermore, I will be there as Mother of Mercy" (Our Lady)

"Look, my child, men's sins have done this to my Son" making Christ's beautiful human figure ugly, unrecognizable. This brings to our minds biblical passages describing the suffering Yahweh's servant, Jesus: "Just as many have been horrified at his disfigured appearance: Is this a man? He doesn't look like one" (Is 52, 14) "But I am a worm and not human, scorned by everyone, despised by the people. All who see me make a jest of me; they sneer and shake their heads" (Ps 22[ 21 ] 7-8).

The title "Mother of Mercy" is so beautiful! Indeed, in 2007 the vigils in honour of the Immaculate Virgin had the slogan "Mary, Mother of the Divine Mercy". The Nuncio of His Holiness, Monsignor Manuel Monteiro de Castro, mediator of the Holy Father's blessing to the organizers and participants of these vigils,  talked about the Heart of Jesus: " With that heart formed in Mary's maternal womb He taught men the Father's mercy through the Beatitudes, the comfort to the afflicted, the nearness and attention to the low and the sick people and, above all, the compassion for sinners for whom he gets the forgiveness shedding his Blood in the Cross, where Mary reaffirms her consent offering the fruit of her womb as "Mother full of Mercy". These words are connected to Prado Nuevo's spirituality. And He finishes saying, "watching this great and admirable mystery, His Holiness encourages you to let the powerful light attract you to do in you personal life as well as in your social life, "whatever is truthful, holy, just, pure, lovely and noble" ( Phlp 4, 8), pleasant to God and agreeable to his loving will for his Glory and the good of men, our brethren, doing everything intimately united, with growing love, to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, being this way witnesses of God's love for a world always needing mercy, the real value of human life, and, above all, the most important relationship: the one between man and the Lord, which helps him not to lose the way of  good, the conscience of sin and the unbreakable hope of God" this appeal is perfect for the times we are living today.
