COMMENTARY UPON MESSAGES
March 26th, 1982
" Yes my daughter, here I am. I’ve come to share these sorrows with you; we will suffer together, although humans think I don’t suffer. I keep on suffering because the world still exists and, for me, there isn’t either past or future; for me, all is present. I keep on suffering for all Humankind, I wish they didn’t condemn themselves" ( Our Lord")
Our Lord regrets that some people say He does not suffer; He said in other message, " they say I don’t suffer...how am I not going to suffer if I’m watching the situation of Humankind?" ( October 7th, 2000) Our Lady had said some years before, " How cruel men are! They don’t have mercy on me, my daughter. They say I don’t suffer; my Heart is suffering because I am not glorious at this moment, my daughter" ( November 25th, 1984) Our Blessed Virgin, assumpted to heaven, can suffer in the same way as Jesus; God Almighty can deprive her of the effects of Glory in a specific moment. We should understand that Jesus’ and Mary’s suffering is similar to ours, to what we endure here on Earth; Therefore, this suffering really hurts Jesus’ and Mary’s Hearts.
A typical feature of Prado Nuevo’s messages is the sorrow of the Sacred Hearts, which coincides not only with other revelations of chosen souls but also with the Sacred Scriptures; in fact, the Old Testament and the New one reflect God’s inner sorrow caused by sin, his people’s wickedness and men who reject his love; in some biblical texts refer to sin as the infidelity that grieves God’s Heart.(1) All this implies that God is not indifferent to men’s love or contempt.
An ancient Christian writer says, " The Father is not an impassive God; if you ask him for something, He has mercy and compassion; He suffers from a passion of love"(2) God is really hurt affectively by those who despise his love. Holy souls, who see reality from a deep spiritual sensibility, have always understood this; for example, Saint Theresa of Jesus, Doctor of the Church and top of the Mystic, often refers to God’s sufferings in her writings, specially in El Libro de la Vida ( chapters 2, 4 ,8 ,15 ,19 ,30 ,34 ,37 ,40 ) and Camino de Perfección ( chapters 7,15,22,25,26,27,34,35). Closer in time, Jesus says to Saint Mary Faustine Kowalska. " As King of Mercy, I wish to fill souls with graces, but they don’t want to accept them (...) how considerable soul’s indifference is to so much goodness, so many proofs of love! My Heart receives only ungratefulness in return, oblivion from souls who live in the world (...) The unfaithfulness of the soul I have specially chosen is the deepest grief of all ; those unfaithfulness are swords that pierce my Heart"(3)
Jacques Maritain, the well-known French philosopher, writes wisely, " When love is betrayed, is the lover’s suffering not as great as the love he feels? God is Love itself. And we betray this love on and on. What’s the meaning of the expression " offence against God" ? it means that our betrayals hurt the love alive in his Heart"(4)
Then Our Lady teaches us a simple short prayer to beg Heaven’s mercy on Humankind, so far away from God:" say frequently," Eternal Father, for your great power, have mercy on all inhabitants of Earth" (...) My daughter, the Eternal Father is very angry because men don’t change. They are only concerned about praying for their body, but they should pray for their soul, they should not be so much concerned about their body, for their body will not even be used for dung". Jesus actually warns us in his gospel, " I tell you my friends, do not fear those who put to death the body and after that can do no more. But I will tell you whom to fear: fear the One who after killing you is able to throw you into the hell. This one you must fear"(5). Some translations use the term " Gehenna" for "hell", this word refers to the valley of Ge Hinnom, in the south of Jerusalem, where the statue of Moloc is, a place of idolatry and abomination.
The comparison of body and dung leads us to think about our perishable material existence and take our soul into account; we should take care of it and keep it in grace because its destiny is eternal and highly important. The Sacred Scripture says, " Do not fear the threats of an impious man, for his glory shall end in dung and worms. Today he is exalted, but tomorrow he shall perish; he shall return to dust from where he came, and nothing shall remain of his plans" ( 1 M 2, 62-63)(6). How much we take care of our body- destined to destruction- forgetting our soul! It should be of use to our spiritual life and we should think of it as an instrument to save and sanctificate our souls. Indeed, the book Imitación de Cristo also says, "he is certainly prudent the one who considers all wordly things as dung to get to Christ; and he is certainly wise the one who fulfills God’s will and rejects his own will" ( I, 4, 2)
" We wish that consecrated souls exerted themselves to have a strong will, to be loyal in the adversity, to devote more to prayer, to be poorer and more mortified" ( Our Lady). These words give consecrated souls some excellent tracks to follow; if they are put into practice, they will contribute to their sanctification: efforts to stregthen the will and educate it to achieve virtues, loyalty and faithfullness to God and the commitments acquired in the Holy Order and religious oaths, etc.
To finish with, Our Lady exhorts us, " Don’t be afraid, my children, of anything. Go on fighting, go on spreading the Gospel, my children, I’m so happy with this foundation!... it pleases me so much!...your humbleness must be exemplary, your humbleness and your charity" In Prado Nuevo’s messages charity and humbleness often appear together; Saint Ambrose explained this connection: " These two virtues- that is to say, humbleness and charity- are so attached and joined that those who get one necessarily get the other, for humbleness is a part of charity and charity is a part of humbleness"(7)
