COMMENTARY ON MESSAGES
JULY 6TH 1981
In this message the Lord takes part talking about His Mother with sorrow, defending Her and praising Her: " Humanity - He says- does not want to listen to My Blessed and Pure Mother’s words". As in many other messages, it is reflected the grief of the Sacred Hearts who, mysteriously but truly, suffer because of the world’s evil and sins: "My Mother suffers a lot for all of you; She is sad, She cries for all sinners and She always asks Me to have mercy on you " and He continues: "I have answered Her: " And who has mercy on you, My Mother?" (...) My Holy Mother with that mantle of sorrow wants to redeem all of you in return for Her tears and Her grieves". Seeing Her like that hurts Him: " I cannot see My Mother suffering so much"; immediately He, full of justice, announces indignantly: "For this reason, I am the one to punish such an ungrateful humanity; but tell those who believe not to be afraid because nothing will happen to them; tell them to persevere in praying and to get close to the Eucharist". Several times messages refer to this universal punishment and, according to the explanation given to Luz Amparo by the -Archangel Saint Gabriel- (19/ 6/ 1981), it has already been prepared "for all of those who have left aside every warning from Heaven"1
Upon this subject some notes should be taken into account: to begin with, God’s punishments are not the same as men’s; they are not due to an imperfect justice or a sign of revenge. However, if we review the Bible, we notice different passages where God actually punishes. He did so to our first parents, Adam and Eve, because of the original sin (cf. Gn 3, 16-19); When He "saw how great was the wickedness of man on the Earth and that evil was always the only thought in his heart", He sent the Flood (cf. Gn 6, 5-7). The Pope John Paul II refers to this biblical event in one of his moral teachings and he talks of " the purifying punishment of the Flood, caused by the spread of sin and violence"2. The same Pontiff repeats. "Corresponding to the moral evil of sin is punishment, which guarantees the moral order in the same transcendent sense in which this order is laid down by the will of the Creator and Supreme Lawgiver (...) God is a just judge, who rewards good and punishes evil"3. In addition, we all know what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah together with the cities of Adamah and Zeboiim (cf. Dt 29, 22), which were destroyed with fire and sulphur raining from the heavens (cf, Gn 19, 24).
As a matter of fact, in this life God, waiting for conversion and penance, does not always punish even the guiltiest or all sins4 ; nevertheless, there is punishment not only in this time but also certainly in the other life. Thus, for example, the new catechism teaches. "The Church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned" (1031). Furthermore, regarding Saint Matthew it also teaches5: "Then Christ will come ´in His glory, and all the angels with him (...) he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left... and they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life` Mt 25:31, 32, 46" (1038).
Likewise, Bernadette Soubirous (Saint Bernadette), who saw the Blessed Virgin at Lourdes, referred to temporal punishments; after the floods occurred in France, she wrote in 1875: "Our kind God punishes us. The streets of Paris were watered with blood (1871) but this did not soften their hearts hardened by evil. How blind man is! Who has been the cause of such a horrible punishment? Sin is what attracts all these punishments to us"
At the same time, in the message we are commenting on there is a calling for hope because the Lord says to Luz Amparo: "but tell those who believe, not to be afraid, because nothing will happen to them", and He proposes some of the main ways to stand firm in spirit: "tell them to persevere in praying and to get close to the Eucharist, I will be there to help them pray and to give them strength to love a lot such a good Mother ". He refers to the Virgin with these touching words: "I ask you not to make her suffer. Believe in Her, because she will open the doors of Heaven to you". He recommends us again the devotion of the rosary and He finishes with some consoling words and a serious warning: "Those who are with God should not be afraid, but it will be dreadful for those who do not want to be in grace".
Warnings like this are sometimes necessary for the souls’ benefit, who would not make efforts to save their souls in other circumstances; Saint Thomas Aquinas and the Catechism (1964) point out: "There exist carnal men under the New Covenant still distanced from the perfection of the New Law: the fear of punishment and certain temporal promises have been necessary, even under the New Covenant, to incite them to virtuous works"6. God wants us to come close to Him for love, which is the most perfect way; but do not forget that "The beginning of knowledge is the fear of Yahweh" (Pr 1, 7)
