COMMENTARY ON MESSAGES

September the 25th, 1981

In this message the Lord shows himself as the father of the prodigal son, which reminds us of the well-known parable of the Gospel: "Announce, my daughter, - He says to Luz Amparo - that I am like the father of the prodigal son; all who come to me will be saved, and I am waiting for them with open arms". How great the love of God is! He comes out to meet us in our path of life to hold us and clasp us to His Heart, which is a spring of mercy. Nevertheless, man engaged in sin goes away from his Saviour, turning a deaf ear when He calls him for conversion. Only when he dares to pronounce those words said by the young man in the parable - "father, I have sinned" -, he recovers God’s friendship; then, His divine forgiveness overflows without any measure because He forgives all our sins and He heals our sickness1. The father gives him all his mercy and love although the son goes away from his father’s house, wastes the inheritance he received from his father, and destroys his dignity; thus, John Paul II explaining this passage of the Gospel says that the parable commonly called "the prodigal son" should be named " the merciful father"2. Therefore, it is not strange that the Lord says in this message "I am very sad" because He is not insensible to sinners’ contempt and He expects them to ask Him for forgiveness when they have offended Him, and a look of love and gratitude for all the favours received.

Immediately afterwards, using a biblical language, He announces: " Tell them the trumpets are about to sound. Poor those who are not prepared when they hear these sounds!"

The trumpet appears in the Sacred Scripture with different meanings. In the Book of the Leviticus it has a joyful tone. "The first day of the seventh month shall be a day of rest for you, a sacred assembly proclaimed with trumpet call" (Lev 23, 24). Likewise, it is also used to announce the year of the jubilee: " Then on the tenth day of the seventh month, sound the trumpet loudly. On this day of Atonement sound the trumpet all through the land"(Lev 25, 9). In the book of the Exodus it appears as the announcement of a manifestation of God (Ex19, 16-17): "On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning and a dense cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast was heard (...) Moses made the people leave the camp to meet God and stand at the foot of the mountain". Saint Paul refers to it as a sign of the coming of Christ: " When the command by the archangel’s voice is given, the Lord himself will come down from Heaven, while the divine trumpet is sounding" (1 Thes 4, 16). Many times it proclaims the majesty of Yahweh, but -like the seven trumpets in the Book of Revelation (chapters 8, 9 and 11) - it is also a warning against calamities.

As it seems, the message referring to the sound of the of the trumpets prophetically announces: "There will be great earthquakes, great droughts, diseases which will cause death". He also mentions the supernatural remedies: " Pray, my children, and get close to the Sacrament of Confession because prayer can soothe the fair and divine wrath of God the Father".

Since he also suffered for us, He points out the value of sacrifice and He invites us to accept it as a means of achieving the Glory: " It is important to suffer; you will reach God’s kingdom by suffering. Say what I said: Father, not my will but yours be done"3. This mystery accompanies all human beings, life but Christ has turned it into a way of reaching the good which will not pass: eternal salvation; with His pains and sufferings, He has won the maker of evil: Satan, who fights for man’s eternal damnation. "To the suffering brother or sister Christ discloses and gradually reveals the horizons of the Kingdom of God: the horizons of a world converted to the Creator, of a world free from sin, a world being built on the saving power of love."4.

Afterwards, the message talks of a mysterious abode (" The third abode will be

called Bethlehem"); to get there we have to take our cross: "although it is heavy, I will help you to carry it". He asks Luz Amparo not to let him down in her dedication to him everyday, and He finishes with some sentences full of comfort: " I am the Alpha and the Omega, those who come to me will reach the Kingdom of Heavens. I carry a Cross on my back so that God the Father springs his divine mercy upon all humanity (...) I repeat you: tell all of them to come to me, for I am like the father of the prodigal son".

"Come to me, all you who work hard and who carry heavy burdens and I will refresh you" the Lord says in the Gospel (Mt 11, 28) opening to us the door of his Heart in such a way that we can shelter and rest in it and receive his divine mercy; nevertheless, men progressively go away from the path leading to eternal life and they do not feel sorrow when contemplating Christ’s Passion. In order to remind us of this fact, the Virgin manifested herself in Prado Nuevo; do not forget her first words in the ash tree: "I want people to come here from all over the world to meditate on the Passion of my Son, which is completely forgotten" (June 14th, 1981).
