COMMENTARY UPON MESSAGES
November 20th, 1981
Christian prophets participate in Jesus’ prophetic mission. As Saint Paul’s first letter to Corinthians says " one who prophesies does speak to human beings, for their building up, encouragement, and solace" (1Cor 14,3), which is exactly what the Lord has been doing by means of Luz Amparo all these years.
In the first lines of this message, the Lord gives some prophetic announcements that are conditional; in other words, their realisation depends on our response towards His demand. These kind of prophetic revelations are more frequent at the beginning of the apparitions in Prado Nuevo; in this case, He says: "If they do not change and they keep on taking advantage of my mercy, the world will become involved in a great war, several nations will be destroyed, many people will die, clouds of fire will fall down on Earth and will burn it; all this will be the most horrible event known by Humankind".
Paraphrasing these words, we could say: " If they change and stop taking advantage of my mercy, the world will prevent a great war, several nations will not be destroyed, etc". Nevertheless, more than twenty years from the moment when these words were uttered, could we say that now human beings have changed? Regrettably, we could not; in fact, Humanity has not become better but more and more it walks along paths leading far from God’s Law: the sense of sin has gradually been spoiled, immorality is increasing day after day, and society is becoming gangrenous, metaphorically speaking. Moreover, several behaviours regarded as negative and illegal are now socially accepted and even our laws protect them. In short, God has been removed from our society and we are enduring its consequences.
Then, the Lord shows happiness and sorrow at the same time: "Yes, my daughter, many souls are being saved, but many people live in mortal sin; offer your sufferings for all of them, help me to bear them too, comfort me, help my Mother too (…); it is necessary that at least a third of human kind be saved".
The salvation of souls: how highly important it is! No doubt, it should be our major task: fighting for our own salvation and being constantly zealous for our brothers’ and sisters’ eternal salvation. How beautifully Campoamor expresses it in his classical poem! : "the most perfect science say/ Wise the man who gets to the right end/ for at the end of the day /the one who saves his soul knows best,/ and otherwise nothing he gains" . Another poet, Saint Francis of Assisi, writes about " Sister Bodily Death" in his sublime "Canticle of the Sun": "from whose embrace no living person can escape. Woe to those who die in mortal sin". He warns of the dangers of living in mortal sin. For this reason, he recommends: " I beg you all to learn the nature and meaning of the things written in this life for the salvation of our soul, and to bring them to our memories frequently".
Next, the Lord shows Luz Amparo some rules so that we walk straight along the path leading to eternal life: " tell all of them, my daughter, they should repent, they should sacrifice a lot, they should do penance. Saying the Rosary every day is very important. Above all, tell them to say it with a lot devotion, my daughter; the world’s situation is very bad, their prayers are saving many souls"
Do we really want to save our soul? Are we making all possible efforts to get such an extraordinary grace? Do we live thinking about eternal life, which never ends? Continuing with poetic references, Saint Theresa of Jesus says: "I live without living in me/ and such a high life I hope for/ that I die for I do not die (…) look, love is strong; / life, do not bother me There's only left to again you, nothing but lose you, Sweet death come swiftly, that I die for I do not die quickly". Great souls experience God’s absence; since we cannot feel Him completely in this world, our temporary life achieves its authentic value and dimension from the point of view of eternity.
Finally, Our Divine Master said it: "whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the gospel will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? (Mk 8,34-36). (To be continued)
